On Thursday, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles of Britain has started the process to take away Prince Andrew’s titles. The palace said, “Today, His Majesty has begun an official process to remove the Style, Titles and Honors of Prince Andrew.” “From now on, Prince Andrew will be referred to as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. Up until now, his lease at Royal Lodge has given him legal rights to stay there. A formal notice has now been given for him to give up the lease, and he will be moving to different private housing," the statement added. “These actions are considered necessary, even though he continues to reject the accusations made against him.”
“Their Majesties want to express that their thoughts and deepest sympathies have been, and will continue to be with, the victims and survivors of every type of abuse," it said. BBC reported that his daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, will keep their titles because “they are the daughters of the son of a Sovereign.” This follows Prince Andrew's failure to address the controversy surrounding his links to the disgraced and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. His connections gained attention after the release of a posthumous memoir titled “Nobody’s Girl," written by his accuser Virginia Giuffre.
As CNN reported, Giuffre – whom the prince claims he has never met – stated in her memoir that Andrew sexually assaulted her when she was a minor. Andrew has continuously denied all claims against him. Nevertheless, Andrew has consistently denied all accusations against him. Earlier this month, Andrew even tried to reduce the scrutiny on his actions by giving up his titles. However, the memoir raised questions about how he managed to pay Giuffre a reported multimillion-dollar settlement in a civil case in 2022 and support his lifestyle, especially since he has not been an active royal since 2019.
