According to reports, a tourist family left behind their newborn infant in a seven seater taxi at the Dubai airport.

Infant’s parents, who are from a Gulf country, requested for a taxi from their hotel in the Al Rigga area to take them to Dubai International Airport. Arriving at the airport, the parents forgot their newborn child in the taxi. They realized that they left behind their child, after the taxi left the airport.

The father said that he assumed his son was with his wife, who left the taxi before he did. While the mother thought that her husband had the child.

The parents contacted the Dubai police, who then coordinated with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to locate and contact the taxi driver.

The driver had no idea that the baby was left inside his car, until he received a call from the police, Colonel Dr Mubarak Saeed Salim, the director of the Tourists Police Department said.

“The driver was drinking tea in a cafeteria and didn’t know about the child. He told the officer that he didn’t notice the child, nor heard his cry.

“We asked the driver to check the car and he found the baby sleeping on the back seat of the car,” Colonel Salim said.

The driver reached to the nearest police department and handed over the child, who was then taken to his parents waiting at the airport. The tourist family did manage to catch their flight.

“We coordinated with RTA and located the taxi using the GPS system which tracked the driver routes,” Colonel Salim said.
