
A senior Indian diplomat, who just completed her official stint in the UAE, said she witnessed history being made between India and UAE in the past two years.
Neeta Bhushan, who relinquished the position of the deputy head of the mission at the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi said that she was fortunate to see history being made in diplomatic relations between two countries, first time in her 22 year long service
Neetu Bhushan served as chargé d’affaires at the Indian embassy off and on for five months during her 2.5 year stint. Neetu will be taking her new position in Chicago as the Indian consul-general.
Her most important task, which she ever handled in her career was when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the UAE in August 2015.
In an interview Neetu described the visiting of PM Modi was historic but later she realized that it was the new beginning of another important history of relations.
She also shared her moment, when they got the confirmation of the visit just before 10 days. Neetu said that they were conscious of the importance as it was an Indian PM visiting to the UAE after 34 years.
Indira Gandhi’s visit in 1981 was the previous prime ministerial visit to the UAE.
Neetu recalled that it was a Herculean task to make all the possible arrangements in 10 days
The Indian missions led by the then ambassador, T.P Seetharam, and the consul-general, Anurag Bhushan, were able to put everything in order in time in cooperation with UAE officials.
“The PM Narendra Modi’s visit was a huge success,” she said.
The PM Modi successful visit led to unprecedented diplomatic interactions between both nations and Indian missions had a busy time afterwards. The bilateral cooperation was extended to many new sectors.
