Accused for attempt to rape, Asaram Bapu is currently under lock and key at Jodhpur Central Jail. On Wednesday, his case is up for hearing at the Rajasthan High Court. The self-styled godman wants a bail, but the court has so far given no privileges to the accused.

After the highly outrageous Delhi rape case, rape laws in India went through a subtle change. On Asaram's behalf, senior advocate Ram Jethmalani had implied that the victim is mentally unstable, suffering from an unnamed disease that draws her to men. He even alleged that the girl is not 16 years old.

However, on further investigation, it was found that the girl was indeed a minor and tests on her mental condition proved her stability. The only illness she suffers from is depression, which is a direct result of the dire situation she had to go through, reported Headlines Today.

During the investigation, it was also found that the girl was an intelligent student. Asaram's lawyer argues that his client was booked unfairly on rape charges from his ashram in Indore as the girl had consented to the act. As per the law, if the victim is a minor, there is no issue of her consent as it is considered manipulation with the intention to rape.

Asaram had been languishing in jail since 1st September, when he was arrested in Madhya Pradesh. He was denied any special treatment despite his wishes to undergo certain neurological treatments at the hands of a female doctor.
